The global Covid-19 pandemic has affected the entire world, in particular the world of culture.

Faced with the difficulty of flying in works and artists from all over the world for exhibitions, the museum decided to organize the Luxembourg Art Prize in a different way to support more artists than in previous years. Because of the crisis, artists need more financial support than ever.

Starting in 2021, the museum will therefore select 24 finalists per year, or twice as many as in previous years.

The money that was formerly spent on plane tickets for artists, hotel rooms for artists and members of the final jury, and the shipment of works from around the world has gone into the creation of two new prizes. Instead of one winner, there will now be three winners each year. The winners will share a total of €35,000 in prize money: €20,000 for the first-place winner, €10,000 for the second-place winner, and €5,000 for the third-place winner. The final jury will rank the winners.

As a participant, you now have a much greater chance of becoming a finalist than before. And if you are selected as a finalist, you have a greater chance of winning a prize.

For the museum, this new system is both practical in light of current events and consistent with its primary goal of supporting artists as much as possible.
